Good news, possibly: Tesla vehicles will get brand-new, customized horn and movement noises, the company’s CEO Elon Musk tweeted on Sunday.
Musk discussed coconuts, fart and goat sounds for starters before adding that those are just “the pointer of the iceberg.”
& sounds too(likewise, of course)
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) October 6, 2019 The sound choices aren’t extremely unexpected given Tesla’s notorious fart mode and Musk’s sense of humor (the coconuts sound is likely a referral to a scene from the motion picture Monty Python and The Holy Grail (see below).
The”tailored”bit in Musk’s tweet possibly means that Tesla owners will be able to extend their vehicle horn choices with whichever sounds they please.
While the horn noises are primarily for chauffeurs’ amusement (and, potentially, annoyance of everybody else), movement noises, which the car produces while driving, are a feature which may cut down injury rates. Fully electric cars such as Teslas do not make a lot of sound while driving, specifically slowly, and per NHTSA’s rules they’ll requirement to add such a function in the U.S. by next September.
